How tall should the enclosure be?

I have an 8-month-old redfoot. I have the base built for a 5x6 indoor enclosure so it will last him a few years, but how tall should I make it? Would it bother him if it was too short whenever he gets bigger? He has a T8 10.0 UVB light, and I don't want that to be too far away from him. Would, say, 20 inches be fine even as he gets bigger?

Try to figure out how 'tall' your tortoise would be if it was standing on 'tippy toes' on its back feet, and reaching as tall as it could with its front feet. You don't want the tortoise to be able to reach the top of the wall with his front toes.

If you use a light stand instead of the clamp on the light, the height of the walls don't matter to the light.

Don't underestimate them.....

I like 24 inches for indoors. 18 inches can work for smaller tortoises and babies. 30 inches wouldn't be a bad idea if you are planning on using it for years.
