Can anybody recommend using a humidifier I'm my 18 month old tortoise vivarium. I have been spraying a wedding the bark, but with the hot weather recently I've been having trouble keeping the humidity up. My new outdoor enclosure in coming on Monday and I've gradually been getting him used to being outdoors for his baths ect and he loves being out there, but any advice on using a humidifier would be greatly appreciated. It does steam his tank up a bit, but he's happy enough. Any thoughts?

My phone keeps auto correcting my words and I read it back and seen the word wedding, which really shouldn't be there so I tried to edit it and it said I was out of time, So I thought it had vanished. I read your reply and totally agree that i am going to have to get a PCV set up before the winter is over. The home I've ordered for the garden has an outside and inside. What would you suggest I put inside the second he can go into, out of the sun?
It's got a bottom in it aswell, so I'm going to remove that dig a small hole in the grass and gently Bury it, so he can get in there himself. Is that what you do? How many hours should I keep him outside. I will play it by how comfortable he is, but if it was you, how would you do it? I've attached some pictures, it's not huge, but it's the best I can afford at the moment.

You can buy some lumber much cheaper and make a much larger much better outdoor enclosure.

The problem with that one is that the sides are so tall relative to the size of the box that the only time the tortoise will get sunshine is mid day, when it is too hot and he/she will have to take cover to avoid cooking.

So easy:

i would not use that at all. if you're looking for something for temporary outside garden use, you are better off with something much larger but no bottom. Tom has some photos as examples in his FAQs but something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081YX3F26/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20

would be better, but make sure they have shade

HA: Tom's and my posts crossed in the either. His pics are what I was talking about

Your so right! I didnt realise it had to be so simple that even I could make it! I've even got wood in the garden like that plus 1 roll of wire. I'm going to send it back.
I'd bet money that a Russian could climb out of a puppy pen like that. It would also need a visual barrier added around the bottom.
I'm gobsmacked how my Russian gets to the heights he does. I'm even sure he moves things in the right places to achieve the height! Very clever little fella or Ella!

Years ago, I built some 28x32 foot cages for black throat monitor lizards to live outside in. After they were gone, I used the cages to house my Russian herd. I can't find the picture anymore, but one of the tortoises climbed up the 1x2 inch welded wire side and was 7 feet off the ground.

Given the places I have found them and the pens they have escaped from, I am pretty sure they can levitate. Or possibly teleport. Apparently, they have all agreed not to levitate or teleport when humans are watching, but I'm expecting to see some grainy security camera footage of it happening any day now...

Once I get a live feed of Fezzik I am going to call it "Fezzik the Boring Tortoise." He really just does "hang out".

He's lulling you into a false sense of security before he makes his big move. Tortoises live a long time. They play the long game...
