Humidity?

Recently I have found out that Russian tortoises need 50% humidity. I just lightly misted her down for the first time today really quickly to kinda moisten her substrate. I give her a bath once or twice a week and I have a humidity gauge in other cages and am soon going to move one to her cage. One gauge is in a cage that says its in 40% humidity but that tank has never been misted and has heatlamps in it.

What substrate are you using?

Our heat lamps tend to really dry things out. I prefer to use damp substrate and offer a humid hide for russians.

Misting the enclosure is not an effective way to increase ambient humidity.

The gauge probably doesn't work correctly. If it's one of those disc type ones, they are not very reliable.
