hi. I'm new. My tortoise is 12 years old. He humps all the time. What should I do? I feel like I need to get him a friend.

Hello, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum. :)
A friend is absolutely the last solution you need.
Can you imagine what would happen to her/him ?
The stress would be unbelievable and can result in death. In the wild the female can escape, but in captivity, they have to be separated after a short while for mating purposes if you are planning on starting families. Could you deal with a shed load of fertilized eggs ?
Tortoises don't do well in pairs, this is one of the reasons why, they are also territorial, groups can sometimes work when the attention is spread aroud between a male and two or more females in a very large enclosure, but pairs, no.
He's better off alone.
Hopefully, he'll get over this phase in time.

Thank you. I wouldn't want anything bad to happen. And I do not want any eggs. Good thing to hear this is just a phase. It's a really long phase though. I think he's been like this for at least 4 years now. :(

They go through a testing-the-equipment period as they mature. He'll get over it.

Hello @Chikamoki , and a very warm welcome to the forum. :)

Torts are not in need of company. They'd rather be alone.

These cute little animals do NOT like change. Therefore it may take some time till they get used to a new place, enclosure, environment, owner, climate and the rest. So do not panic. ;)

Many adult males sulcatas are like this.

Adding another tortoise would be a big mistake.
