where do you think I should put it? Is there a general rule of thumb here?
whats a hygrometer? is it the same thing that i buy at the hydroponics store?

A hygrometer is like a thermometer but measures how humid a enclosure is instead of temperature! :)

I would put it either next to the aloe plant almost under the ramp or next to the hide on the ground on the other side of the lamp.

This is actually a great question, I have moved my hygrometer at least a dozen times. I decided to place it a few inches off the substrate and 1/2 way between the basking and the cool side. Although my little tanks tend to move things around, I swear anything new must be run over, knocked over or moved.
