Yeah, I agree with Fernando. Definitely NOT a box turtle.

Good lord, I hope they have been feeding him like a box turtle. You better give him a warm water soak daily to help flush out the kidneys and other internal organs.

Oh, and hello and welcome to the forum.

No, not Russian...Hermann's is closer to it. Maybe Egyptian but definitely not a Russian.
Hi and welcome to the forum...Can you post some better pictures of him? I agree with Tom about the soaking...

Hi Leighsbest:

Welcome to the forum!!

May we know your name and where you are?

I've seen quite a few Russian tortoises in my time that were thought to be box turtles. Sorry Maggie...its a Russian tortoise. I only hope he's been fed quite a bit of greens, not too much fruit and no bugs!

I am also leaning towards russian, and lets hope they have not been feeding it like a box turtle. Drastically different diets,

No doubt, Russian.

Not egyptian, not a box turtle..

Some people refer to these as "Russian Box Turtles". Its a misnomer, but maybe thats where the confusion came from.

Are you a teacher?
