Awww thanks ya'll.. I am going to have to look over this thread and see where I left off with this turtle adventure.. Yep, have pictures... ** Smile** and now that I know the time of year and what to look for next year, I will be ready!! lol.. As of right now I have one nest right outside my front door, those eggs should hatch in about 2 or 3 more days (unless they over winter/winter over ) but since they were laid so early in the season fingers crossed they will hatch soon..

If possible, I will upload the new pictures later tonight.

Nay~ Yes they were left in the ground with screens placed over them, then as the time grew near hatch date, Mr Pete came out and place small cages right over the ground, so that when they hatched they would still be safe in the cage and not run out to the road.. Mr Pete has the hatchlings right now and he will take data on each of them, lots of pictures, lots of drawings and weigh them all.. He will then bring them back and release them behind our house.. Where there is lots of grass, mud and water for them to hide in.. Oh they wanted to keep some of them but there is to many permits.. Maybe at a later date.. And yea I can't count the times I have checked that one nest out by the road.. I was so worried about it.. I would even check it late at night, as not to draw attention to myself on the side of the road.. Plus I was worried that someone might see the $10,000 fine sign and think OH they must be worth something so I can sale whatever is under that screen.. So yes checked it many times.. Like a ole mother hen.. lol..

Thanks again everyone...

Awesome! But I thought these were indigenous to the Mobile Delta and not Mississippi?

I have been on canoe trips to the four seasons outpost on the mobile and tensaw rivers many times and feared that alabamensis was truly gone. I could not even find a preserved specimen to look at let alone a live one. So, these photos posted by Gulf Coast are encouraging.
