My dream is to someday own lots of land in someplace humid like Florida so I can keep my reds outdoors all year and own more and also own a couple Aldabra tortoises like aldabraman. For now I'm stuck in dry Nevada :( "sighs"

The secret is to take whatever the environment is where you live and either get animals needing that kind of environment or doing the more hard work and more expense way and creating an environment within the "hostile" environment that is naturally there.

Ditto with what Jacqui said. There are ways, no matter where you live. Don't forget, in Florida, you have to worry about hurricanes every year. Have you looked into solar energy to heat an outdoor enclosure. I am. Will let everyone know what I find out. Looking into portable solar. If they ever get back with me, I hate the waiting, ugh.

Someone tell me how I can have an aldabra in Maryland. I can see me bringing one indoors during winter now...

Build a large large building. Have the floor dirt, lots of sky lights and artificial lighting, of course a great heating system, and grow lots of plants in there... including a planted floor area. Visualize a totally enclosed "outdoor" enclosure. Have it connected to the real outside enclosure and on warm enough days allow the tortoise to go in and out at will. Expensive sure, but well worth it to somebody who really wants one of these guys.

Ditto again on what Jacqui said. Like I have said before. Even people in California has to keep torts warm on some nights. ALDABRAMAN has heat lights for his cold nights in Florida. . It's all in what you can afford more then where you live.
