Identify please

Found this baby turtle on the road the other day. He was on his back, and half covered with ants. I would like to know what kind he is and what he needs. Thank you

That is a Box turtle, they are native to your area.

Check your laws, many states have laws about keeping them and if you release it, do it close to where you found it. They have a strong homing instinct. If you take it somewhere else, it will probably spend the rest of its life trying to get back to the area you found it.

It is a Box and probably should be put back. Not into them being taken from the wild but worries me that it was cover with ants even though it wasn't dead. Might be a normal thing for ants.
