Hey all, would you say this THH/Sic (7,5 y/o) is a male or a female? Cheers.

It is hard to tell from the pictures posted, but to me, the tail looks too small for the tortoise to be a male. Also the supracaudal scute does not curl inward which would be another male characteristic.

Is the plastron concave at all? I can't determine that from the photos.

Hello and welcome to the forum. What does this tortoise weigh in grams?

I can see in the picture that the tortoise is housed on the wrong substrate. Those little white limestone bits encourage a tortoise to eat this sandy, soil based substrate and that is not good. Check this out for info on substrate and much more:

Hi again and thanks for the replies. So, the idea was actually not reveling the size and weight, only shape (according to size and weight it's a female). But this specific tortoise has given us some "mixed signals", so, escaping the traditional debate forums here, I wanted to check out this one, see what you guys think. I will soon post lower "port/starboard" images, to illustrate a very light concavity (which is there nonetheless).

That said, don't worry about the substrate in the picture, the tortoise is not "housed", it lives in an open space in northern Germany with abundant food allaround (autoctonous wild plants -which grow here whether we weant it or not- Wegerich, Urtica, Ferkelkraut, Brombeere leaves, dandelion, etc. etc.).

Thanks!
