Man...so I was looking on YouTube at baby sulcatas and you wouldn't believe all the ignorant people that have no clue on how to take care of them. So many of these poor little guys were pyramiding really bad. I don't understand why or how people listen to the uneducated pet store owners that don't do enough research and just assume they know what they're talking about. I was duped initially about how to care for my new little guy. As soon as I got home with him I hopped on the web and found this place and realized about 90% of what he told me was straight garbage. I wish people would be more proactive upon purchasing one of these little guys so they can care for them properly. Sorry for the rant. These videos really got to me.

It's hard to blame them. All the books say that stuff. Most of the vets learned from those books, rather than from first hand experience. I don't hear anybody promoting simulation of the African rainy season conditions except the people who have been here on TFO.

Word is slowly getting out though...

Unfortunately, it may not really be their fault. I did my research. There is so much conflicting info, I decided to listen to the breeder of my leopard. She had pretty good credentials. When I realized my Leo was pyramiding, I did more research and found TFO and Tom. That was sadly 4 months after I had him and 6 months of him being raised wrong:(. You can do all the home work in the world, but if you listen to the wrong one, you get wrong info. Not much info about the hot and humid or closed chamber way, YET. Heck, you can find people on here that do not believe in the closed chamber or hot and humid way:(

i looked everywhere and got all kinds of crazy conflicting info..i was so lost and was about to give up the tortoise i had just been given. then i found the forum and i felt comfortable enough with the info here to actually use it, and eventually figured out this is the absolute best place for any and all tortoise-related information.

that was a very stressful and angry time for me, to say the least. haha

Being as new to torts as i am, i can relate. I diligently attempt to do as right by might work as possible had I not found TFO I would be making all the same mistakes and I really, really care. Thanks again to you all. :p

I know. Hard to watch sometimes.
So here's the deal. Ghandi said we are accountable for what we do as well as for what we do not do. I think it would be great for us to collectively, nicely, sublimely invite these peeps to join TFO via the comment section. I try to ask sellers on craigslist to refer buyers of tortoises to TFO for education and a few knew about TFO and others thanked me for telling them. Hands on education is so valuable, and needed, for the sake of the tortoises. We chip away ...
