To help combat the ongoing battle of substrate insects in my indoor enclosures I have upgraded my fly tape to a bug zapper (link at bottom). Was curious about others exsperiences with bug zappers. Wondering if the uv that it emits is safe/is an irritant like coil bulbs. Currently i have mine 2feet above one of my open table tops. Also for those who have simular insect problems I recommend buying an old stove off criegslist and setting it up somewhere outside to bake/sanitize substrate and stone.

It shouldn't be a problem as if they look up it's covered.
The little flies I had this winter was horrible from the peat moss I used. I'm still killing off a few flies even after him I have my house and the greenhouse the flies were in.
No tortoises were around the bombs and the substrate is being thrown out, not reused.
I like the peat moss but not the bugs. Won't use it again.
