Introducing my Indian Star Tortoise

Hey Guys,

Here is my captive bred star tortoise. He is 1.5 years old, 3.5 inches measured with a ruler. Ive tentatively named him Merle but would like some help in sexing it. I realize that it is young but any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. I've had him since he was 4 weeks old and he is doing great. I'll post some pictures in 6-12 months and maybe we can tell by then.

So it's been about 8-9 months since I've updated with pictures and thought I would ask again. Merle is about 27 months old and is growing nicely. 5 1/4 inches long and weighs 320 grams. Here are some new pictures taken today. Any help with sexing would be appreciated.

I'm going with female. At 5" it should look more male if it was a male. The anal scutes still look female, the tail would be longer with a male by now, and the overall shape is kind of between but looking a bit female.

Hi Geordie, you have a healthy and cool star. Do you owned your tort since he was a baby? you said he is 1.5y and 3.5in when you got him, is that from the breeder/seller info? I bought a star 2 month ago his shell is around 7.8cm (+3in) and weigh around 90gr, and the seller said he is around 2.5 yr. so if your star 320gr, 5 1/4in for 27months (2yr 3mnth) means my one is a very very little star? or probably my seller got the wrong info when he imported this tortoise..
I have read from this forum that the tortoise growth on different rates though but 200gr differences is too much I think.. pls advice guys..
