Does he burrow down at night?
When Spud burrows down at night, he gets soil in his eyes and they go like that for a while and then when they are clean he's fine :)

He does burry at night so you can only see the top of his shell and he drinks and eats frequently and when I soak him they open and most of the time he just wipes his face and he's ok. And he is not gaining wait

Tell us the 4 important temperatures: directly under the basking lamp, warm side, cool side and overnight minimum.

Pictures of the enclosure and lighting paint a thousand words and will help us to spot anything that could help.

We really do need to know what lights you have.

Do you weigh on a regular basis at roughly the same time of day? Fortnightly is good.

What do you feed your tort?

Sorry for all the questions, but we need to know these things to be able to have an idea of what's going on

IIRC you kept this one with another RF, right? It's possible he's not gaining weight because of bullying.

If he's being bullied he could grow slower because he's being intimidated into not eating/drinking/sleeping when he needs to.

I'm going to guess its too cool at night. I dont see a ceramic heat emitter to warm them at night. It needs to be between 75-78 at night. No lower.

Ive got my heat bulbs in in the day. Then a timer shuts them off and the ceramic heat emitter comes in for the night, also on a timer.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1462839749.070912.jpg

He might be too cold, that's my guess. They tend to sleep more when they're cold. And not eat well.

Ceramic heat emitters? You can get them at any pet store, or online. They can get quite hot so I would turn them on and measure the temps frequently in case the temps rise too high. Just from my experience, they seem like they wouldn't be that powerful but they are.

Start with a lower wattage. You want to put it near where he sleeps so it's warm. Use a temp gun to see how warm it s. Again, warmer, like 80 degrees is good.

You need a dome fixture like the one you have for your heat lamp right now but be sure it's got a porcelain socket that can handle the heat of the CHE (ceramic heat emitter).http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AQCXM/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20

Temp guns you can order online for $10-12. It's a great investment.

If you keep more than one tort, there is always a dominant animal. If there is only one other the dominant tort only has one other to bully; there is no escape.

Torts are expert mental bullies as well as physical and you cannot possibly watch them 24/7. The victim withdraws, gets less food and fails to gain weight and thrive.

I agree that I see no water bowl in there. You need a terracotta plant saucer in there so your tort has access to water 24/7.

Torts don't usually stop eating in this situation, most people will see seemingly normal behavior with their torts housed in pairs but the smaller tort continues to fail to thrive until they are separated.

They will eat if they are hungry, they may choose to walk away without eating enough to grow properly out of fear of the dominant tort. That's what they do in the wild, they leave the situation and find another food source. They can't do that in captivity, so they fail to grow.
