I’m a new Sulcata mama and worried like a new mama lol. I have a basking spot that sits at a 100.6F all day and night, where the food is it’s 85, and then a cooler area where I put her big pool for soaking. I have untreated mulch as her bedding to burrow in. Do u think my little one is ok with what he has? Sorry my camera on this phone stinks. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

It seems that a few things need to be changed.

*you need a ceramic heat emitter for night. Your tortoise should not have any lights on at night, and they need darkness to sleep.

*you need at least 2-4 inches of substrate, but more is preferable.

*I would add a few more hides, including a humid one.

*what kind of mulch is that?

*do you have a uvb light?

*what is your humidity?

Please give these a read and come back with questions-

The terra cotta saucer should also be submerged into the substrate to allow your tortoise to climb in and out without any trouble.

I would also recommend raising the substrate level by a few more inches.

Your enclosure looks small. One of the threads I provided will explain why a large indoor enclosure (as much as 8 x 4 feet as you can provide) is required for Sulcatas.

You'll also want to expand on your lighting setup.

Thanx so much for all the info I really appreciate the help. I changed a couple things I changed the bedding I now use coconut substrate and added more of it so that he can burrow deeper if he wants. I also turn off the uva uvb bulb at night and turn on a heating pad that keeps the tank around 90 at night. I also added another hideout as u suggested and a little dish for him to soak in if he wants to add some more humidity. I usually just mist the substrate every other day for moisture. Am I on the right track here? Anything I’m missing I appreciate any help I worry over this little guy like he’s one of my kids.

Misting the tank every other day is not enough for humidity. Do you have a hydrometer? Your humidity needs to be at 80-100% at all times.

You say the heat mat gets it to 90, but is it 90 in the coolest part of the enclosure? Additionally, you need a ceramic heat emitter, not a heat mat. Heat mats are a bit dangerous, because tortoises are designed to absorb heat from above and not below, and they can easily be burnt.
