In general, if the tap water is safe for you to drink and bathe in, then its safe for your tortoise. I'v been using tap water for them since the 70s. Hasn't caused a problem yet.

In my city no one I know can stand to drink the tap water. I just use a simple Pur water filter on the kitchen tap for drinking water for my animals. At the least it cuts down on chlorine. For soaks and baths I use tap. Our tap water is probably safe but I can't drink it without at least filtering it. So my animals drink filtered water too. I might be an overprotective mom though.

I agree. RICHMOND has a pretty good water so we are lucky. At work we have a hot/cold dispenser with a UV filter and it does make it a touch better!
