I wouldn't feed any until its been in the ground and weathered for a few months, which means spring time when the leaves grow back. Nurseries use all sorts of pesticides and fertilizers.

I think "muscadine" is a wine grape...but it really doesn't matter. Grape leaves are fine to feed, no matter what variety.

Grass-eating tortoises should be fed fruit very sparingly.

The guys (CDTs) love the grapes (but only get a bit from time to time) and the RFs love them as well :p

I think I am up to about four varieties of grapes. Have any of the rest of you, who have more then one variety, noticed if the tortoises think the leaves taste differently? May seem like a funny question, but there seem to be vines here that are more universally liked by all the tortoises and some that seemed to be not eaten by the pickier tortoises.

I have 2 kinds growing for mine also. :) They LOVE the leaves!!!

Nice! Do you happen to have this kind?

I have "Thompson" and I'll run out back and see what the other one is....... it is "Flame Seedless". My torts don't seem to notice a difference. I bought mine bare root from home depot in the spring. They were $6.98 each. I thought that was a pretty good deal! Where I live is a huge grape growing community so they did very well here!
