Dusty is starting to outgrow his outdoor tortoise table. I have been thinking about what I could do to give him more outdoor space. So I was sitting on my patio thinking about my garden this year and then a light bulb went off. I could use my raised garden bed for him. It's plenty big for now and it gets plenty of sun and shade through out the day. So we are going to modify it so it's predator proof and he can stay out there all day. Today the kids and I decorated it with rocks and some plants but we need to buy more. We planted some tortoise seeds and this will be his home until he outgrows it. Then we will build him a proper enclosure when the time comes. I even have a water source next to it so I can try a misting system on a timer. I'm so excited. Dusty spent about an hour in it today in our 83 weather. I pulled up a chair and watched him explore. I have hawks and crows that would snatch him in a second. Then he had to go back in his old enclosure but at least it's still outside. What do you think?
He's not even 4" yet.

Sounds like it was originally a garden bed, so it was easier to tend and reach the plants in that shape.

Kathy, what a great idea! Shouldn't be too hard to adapt, and he will have a lot of corners to go around, lol.

I don't know the cost. It was left on the property. I can look up the company.
My kids were thrilled to help me today.

That is an awesome design for both tort table and garden beds, I will be keeping that in mind when we move to the country.

Thanks Angela. We haven't worked on it yet but I love sitting out with him while he cruises around and eats the weeds. My kids added rocks and some plants from his old enclosure. I'm so excited because it saved a lot of time and material.
