I have caught my tortoise via camera posing like this several times now while I'm at work. The camera is somewhat new and I am seeing some interesting active behavior that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed (seems he's a fan of supper around 4:00), but I'm not sure they sprawl out like this.
Could be that because he is in Boston and it's getting cold, he's taking advantage of basking? Sometimes he faces the other way and rests his head on the house to the left. At other times he will lift his head and legs up like he's doing a yoga exercise.
To ease immediate concerns, he is definitely alive, as he walked around after that.
