thats strange, why are there types of sand called ''repitle sand'' with pics of tortoise's on the front?

No reptile sand, calci sand is all bad.
You cant just use sand anyways.
Its too dust for tortoises.

if you use sand, do a 50/50 mix with soil.

Hi Shaun,
Reptile,calci sand can cause impaction with tortoises.They have stopped advising the use of it for torts around here.If you use sand,make sure its childrens playsand and that it is mixed with top soil that has not had any additives/fertilizers added to it.

Yes Shaun,but only as long as there has been no fertilisers used on it.Sand on its own can also cause the sharpe grains of sand getting into the torts eyes and damaging sight,it can also cause irritation to the nares (nostrils) which can mean an uncomfortable nasal flush!
