I am asking for another member. Is there a alternative to a Kane mat? Does anyone know if K&H mats are safe?

I tried unsuccessfully to get a Kane heated Pig Mat in the UK, but when I was searching for an alternative, Stanfield Heat Mats came up and are available in the US.
No idea of cost or how reliable they are though.

I did not try the K & H for the reason below.
(The internal thermostat will automatically heat to your animal’s standard body temperature, so it’s always giving off the perfect amount of heat.)

I use Stanfield mats. Bought the first one in 2006. I went with Stanfield mainly because they offered sizes that suited what I wanted that Kane didn't offer. I'm completely satisfied them and never had a problem with any of them.

I can add out of the two kane mats I do have, one took a crap 2 years ago and they weren't all that old.

Stansfield with the F911 controller (the cheaper controller was NOT satisfactory)
I bought that controller with my first mat and it didn't last 2 years. I opened it up to see what went wrong and they are basically wall mount dimmers. So I made one using a dimmer switch and it's still working fine.

@wellington since you have the Kane and zoo med mats, do you think the zoo med one is made by Kane with a different mould for the top cover? They look so identical otherwise.

I use the vivosun seedling mats, run through thermostats… they’re tough, waterproof, and max out at 90F even without the thermostat.

I’ve been using some for three years without any crashing or going out of temp range.

I use them to help my enclosures reach the base temp I want, then use CHEs (also with thermostats) to provide for basking or upper range temps.

I don't know, but yes they are exact except for color.
I don't know if I still have the boxes they come in. If i di i will see if it says anything to relate the two.

Those are covered in a softer covering right?
Would they work for a large tortoise leopards, sulcata? Being made for a plant tray I couldn't imagine they would hold up or be safe for large tortoises?
I like that you are able to have substrate over them.

I don’t think they’d work for large tortoises or as an only heat source, but in this particular niche they seem to work quite well.

These are exactly the type of heat mats we tell people should NOT be used under tortoises.

I know they look like the ones pet stores sell for reptiles, which has records of starting fires and burning animals. These ones are made for seedlings and can't go over 90, has been used/experimented with by a member for a few years with no problems, what would be the issue with smaller tortoises if used properly.

Same issue as the reptile store ones. Babies of some species dig down to get away from heat.
