Wow! Glad you were outside. We've lost some of our smaller chickens to hawks, but none since our geese are fully matured. Definitely something to think about.

Okay seriously can I live with you, I will set up a tent and won't bother you at all, I love your yard! All of the grass and trees make me homesick for CT! btw So glad your Tort is ok, I was having a heart attack just reading about it.

Does anyone know how much a tortoise has to weigh to be safe against bird-napping. We have some very large obnoxious crows that hang out near Taco's pen and make me nervous.

I don't mean to stress your out stephanie but crows won't carry away a tortoise (most of the time) they flip them over and then eat them, that is how the are doing it CDT's out here in california, they work as a team and flip over bigger ones than hatchlings,

Maybe I can start charging rent to camp out?:D

That is a good question. Leo is almost 5 inches long and about 400 grams, so I wonder how much would be a safe weight?

Oh, ick! That's pretty gross to know. Luckily Taco's pen is close to the house and I let the crows know I do not enjoy their presence.:(

Time to turn Anthony loose with his airsoft rifle again, I guess.

Thanks for the heads up, David. :tort:

A little off topic (just left of center) but I was at the drivethru about 3 hours ago getting coffees for my coworkers and the biggest Red Tailed Hawk I have ever seen landed directly on the Menu board and just stared at me! I thought of this thread and i gotta admit i was a little creeped out. lol They are lots around here but I have never had one come so close, especially when next to a very busy street.

Spooky!

Hi, just moving to Arizona with 2 small dogs I read up alot on the wild life here. The hawks and owls love little dogs!!!! our dogs dont go outside without us and I still worry. Yes, I have read that with some prey the hawks pick them up and when far in the sky will drop the prey and kill them that way.
So on this topic, what does everyone use to cover their torts homes with for the small torts?
