light/heat question

I'm worried that my torts heat lamp is to hot and keep wanting to turn it off

What temp is it directly under the lamp? The lamps themselves usually get pretty hot - ask my 3 year old who touched it once.

You need to have an accurate thermometer, like an infared thermometer. You point and take the temp in the area that you are interested in.
That is the only way you can figure out what the temps are.
