If he has another, "dry", basking spot - no problem. If it's the only basking area and a single water dish he might not be able to warm up properly and water will evaporate quickly.I am interested in getting opinions on this one. We are trying to "motivate" our Russian T to drink and hang out in his water dish more. We installed a basking lamp above the dish and closely monitor the water temperature. What do you think?
Thank you for this infoIf he has another, "dry", basking spot - no problem. If it's the only basking area and a single water dish he might not be able to warm up properly and water will evaporate quickly.
You can spray water on top of his food and pour a bit in the food dish. As I understand, staying in water is not very natural behaviour for Russian tortoises but a few can actually enjoy it.
He really likes his water dish and walks up the ramp to get to it.Hmmm, interesting experiment. Will their love of heat outweigh their hatred of water...?
Will be interested so see what happens!
I will add some testudo powders to the water, sometimes dried chamomile, or dried alfalfa or roses ...he seems to like his water dish more these days. He uses the ramp, walks up and will look for food and soak..sometimes only his hind feet...
