lighting for horsefield ???

if i have a exo terra daylight basking spot light that says it is multi purpose do i also need a heat lamp ? At the moment i have a red heat lamp which i have read is not good for tortoises...want to get heat and light correct but very confusing what to have.....any tips please

If your tortoise is mostly indoors, I would recommend you get a Powersun. This will give you heat light and UV all in one bulb. Set it on a timer, adjust the height of the fixture to get the right basking temp under it, and you are good to go.

If your tortoise has an outdoor enclosure and get some sunshine at least a few times a week, then I would recommend a regular flood bulb (not a spot bulb). I usually use 65 watt floods and set it on the same timer and adjust the height to get the right basking spot under it.

Unless you house gets below 60F at night, you don't need any night heat.

If you use a Powersun make sure to check with a solar meter. I had a couple of powersun bulbs that did not put out much UVB.
