Is it ok to turn both lights off at night? If I leave them on he's up and down All night trying to get out but if I turn them off we don't hear from him plz help need sleep
Yes, they should be turned off. Just like you, he needs his rest too and instinct tells him if there is light, he should be out eating while he can. If you need additional sources of heat at night, try checking into a CHE. A CHE is a ceramic heat emitter, which puts out heat, but no light. I know some folks use the black or even red lights at night for heat, but I think they can cause other issues, so I vote for no light at all during the night hours.
CHE's turn on at night and during the day the bulbs come back on.
Depending on the Tort; you just provide them with the right wattage and color.
Some cannot handle bright bulbs; I have a few Russians that are only happy with the Red ones.
Go figure.
But yeah they are just like humans, sure we like a heater on; but don't have the bright room light shining in my face...
OR
I know a few people who leave Red lights on 24/7 and have their appropriate hiding logs/boxes/burrows faced away from the light and have another one facing it... They figured it out... But I'm not like my mates. I prefer Day and Night....
I agree. They need it dark at night. Whether they need heat depends on the species, size, age and the temps in your house. I see russians in your Avatar pic. In most cases they do not need any night heat, unless you leave somewhere really cold and don't heat your house.
