Hi there guys I'm new to the forum. I have had my hermanns tortoise George since November. He is 8months old. Lately he has been waking up before his basking light turns on in the morning. Is this okay or should I set his lights to turn on earlier? Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

Hello and Welcome:). Pretty normal. With the longer days, they go with it. Mine have all been waiting for me when I go out to feed them. In the shorter winter day light, they are usually still sleeping.

Hi Amy, and welcome to the Forum!

You can buy a pretty cheap timer for around $5 and set it to turn on the lights before you get up.

Wild or outdoor living tortoises will do the same thing. They know where the sun will hit first thing in the morning, so they get up early and go sit there waiting for the sun.

Thanks for the reply's. Okay great. I do have timers set for 9 am but I see what you guys are saying as it is only more recently as the days have gotten lighter that he is up earlier.

My timers come on at 7a and go off at 7p.
