So I have a question about the UVB/UVA light that I have for my tortoise!

It keeps blowing out super frequently :(

I'm not in the country so I can't check what kind it is, but if somebody gives me the name I might be able to remember.

I want to know what you guys are using for your tortoises' UVB/UVA lights and how long they last!

Thanks :)

Mine are Zoo Med Power Sun. When I turn them on in the morning they usually turn themselves off, but if I wait a few minutes they come back on. The lights are self-ballasted, and need to be cool before they'll come on again. I've never had one burn out. I usually use them one winter season, then toss them and start with new bulbs next winter.

If you are using some kind of MVB (I use the Powersuns as well), make sure your fixture can accommodate the wattage, that it can handle well above the wattage of the bulb. So with a 100w bulb, get a brooder/shop dome fixture that goes up to 250w, for example.
They shouldn't keep blowing like that.
(I also use the Zoomed Reptisun tube bulbs with hoods and a plain basking light for heat as well, I have both set ups).

I also use Powersun. Do you use a fixture that has a ceramic base? Also, they are fragile when hot, so I make sure not to move them or bump them when they are on. I have never had one blow out, after about 6 months the UVB rays are gone and I use them in a given situation for warmth for years after that...

Since when is Indiana not in the country??? Just joking, I understand what you mean...:)
