Hello, I live in Southern California. I’m looking for a red footed tortoise, preferably a baby but an adult is cool too! I already have an enclosure and everything, just struggling to find the tortoise! Would appreciate any recommendations!

Welcome to The Forum!

Here has the best most up-to-date info, plus there are a lot of years of expert tortoise keeping represented by the various members here. Everyone will do their best to help you help your tortoise to have a happy healthy life.

For your own peace of mind don't listen to the "advice" given by other sources, like: pet shops, social media sites, many YouTube videos, people at reptile shows, and even most veterinarians. They're still using old info that doesn't work as well as what you'll find here.

Study the info in the links offered. All those head-exploding details will show you how to help your tortoise to thrive.

And, ask a lot of questions. Run it by the members here before you buy new equipment or whatever - their expertise will save you a lot of time, stress, and money.

Its really good to get everything in place before you get your tortoise. Tell us about the enclosure you're setting up. Posting a few pics would be even better!

There are quite a few Red Foot keepers on here. We will do all we can to help you out. You'll need to have a large enough and closed-top space for your Red Foot because they are a tropical species and need to have 84% humidity and approximately 84 degrees Fahrenheit 24/7/365. They are a beautiful species, but need some specific environmental parameters, they aren't like the Desert Tortoises that can be kept outside all the time.

Have you had a chance to read this yet?
