This a.m. while I was walking around, opening the habitats and feeding the babies, I saw this going on in little Emmie's pen:
We have many, many fig beetles flying around this time of year. It is a huge iridescent green beetle that sits on the ripe figs on the tree and makes holes in the fruit, ruining it for picking. The tortoises still like it though. The beetles fly around and sound like a mini helicopter.
I was very surprised to see that Emmie had caught one, or that she even knew it was edible. She had a hard time eating it because it was stuck to her upper beak.
