Just got this little guy a couple weeks ago from a local breeder. He's a great little tortoise. He some slight pyramiding going on but his new enclosure should bring on some smooth growth from now on. Here's some pics enjoy. Congrats on your new addition. You've done a great service on taking this baby away from his previous environment cause he certainly wasn't getting the care he needed. Now, with daily soaks (I would recommend two daily cause of early pyramiding), and a proper environment, he'll have a better life. Have you read Tom's threads on raising baby sulcatas? I also recommend it to avoid future health problems. I also recommend sprinkled calcium powder in his food 2-3 times a week. Best to you and your lil guy

Yeah I've pretty much modeled my care routine after Tom's guides. Hoping soon he'll have a shell as smooth as Tom's torts.

Got him soaking regularly have a closed chamber with the shown humidity. Have a basking temp of 105 , cool side temp 85, ambient air temp is 88, night time low 79. I'm running the humidifier 12 hours a day same as my lights. Feeding Sulcata grass and broadleaf plant mix i grew along with young cactus some grocery greens and Timothy hay. He has a terra cotta saucer of water available at all times and has a hide box with moist moss inside and a heating pad near it on the outside of the enclosure to maintain that 80-79 degree night time low. Still a little too cold for natural sunshine but plan on providing that regularly once it warms up.

Sounds like you're doing great with him! I also had to comment on how much I love the name. I immediately imagined "How to Train Your Dragon." :D -Is that the correct reference?

Keep those night temps a little higher than 79. 82 ambient is better during winter months.

I'm not sure if there is a character in that movie named Lug Nut just seemed like a fitting name for a Sulcata. Yeah I think I'm gonna have to go with a CHE and thermostat haven't been able to keep that night temp above 80. Thanks for the advice.
