I was just wondering can tortoises be microchipped like dogs and cats? Anyone have experience with this?

Yes, definitely. I had Joe done

EDIT
To expand, I had it done at a specialist tort vet in case Joe went walkabout.

In the UK torts have to be microchipped before they can be sold as wild caught torts cannot be sold here any more

Started looking into this. There is a difference between ID chipped and GPS chipped. Seen for dogs and cats, don’t see why not for torts. Just have to find a vet to do it. I’ve also heard of a GPS chip that has an internal temp reading. This seems to be perfect for reptiles. Got to research further.

I think the GPS chip is a great idea. I wonder what something like that would cost though..

I wanna know too I’d love to get Skurt GPS chipped but it sounds risky since they’d have to go between their shell?

From what I've read it's placed behind the left hind leg

I was googling around but couldn’t find chips with GPS only GPS trackers. Anyone have a link?

GPS trackers would be what your looking for. You use something like Google Maps to show location of your”lost tort”. From what I’ve read, one chip recharges with dog or cats body heat. Will have to check out for the cold blooded.
