Silly question, but can tortoises be safely microchipped?

Also a VERY dumb question, but could you safely tape a piece of laminated paper with contact info on the bottom of the shell?

These are purely what ifs:p

Yes, they can be microchipped. I had Joe done in case of escape from our garden.
I can't see that taping anything would work. The tape would come off and, in any case, the plates expand as the tort grows.

Anything stuck to the bottom of the shell would soon be scraped off. You can take a little address label and stick it on one of the edge scutes, then paint over it with clear nail polish, being careful to not get the paint on any growth areas. It would probably need replacing a couple times a year.

Yes, you can microchip tortoises. They do it all the time in the U.K.
