she has some chicks that are not quite old enough to stay outside running with the grown flock, so she's been putting them out in her box turtles' enclosure during the day, for the next few days to a week.

Yesterday, after she put out some chick feed, we found Andromeda and Orion gobbling down their share, which is only fair, I suppose, as the chicks get some of the box turtles' veggies, soaked dogfood, resident weeds and bugs.

My tortoise partner swears by chick starter as a supplement for all tortoises. I occasionally sprinkle a bit over each tortoise's meal. But you have to be careful to buy the kind with no medications added.

Surprised me to see how enthusiastic they are about it! :cool:
