I cover my indoor enclosure with hardware cloth (sturdy screen type material) to keep my cats out. The cats have never bothered the tortoises, but would try to use the enclosure as a litter box..

In an open field like that, he's looking for cover. My Russian does the same -- looks so crazy! Now that I have an enclosed garden for him, he can get lots of outdoor exercise without me losing him. If only spring were nearer and I could start gardening it more!!
