Hi friends,
I'm perplexed by my tortoise's lack of burrowing. She used to all the time. She doesn't even go into her hidey hut above ground. She used to always have her head under the substrate if staying in place. But recently she kinda nestles next to a drift wood in a little depression but not a burrow. And she's half in the basking light, half out. I changed changed her substrate from old dry cypress mulch to reptibark. I just don't want her to be uncomfortable. Is it a necessity that they burrow? Thank you all.

I see content relaxed tort feeling safe and comfortable. Head on the inside of log could be hiding from light or found a perch to rest the chin. Try adding some smooth pebbles or flat stones to add interest and offer alternative basking places. You may find they change with days and weather burrow or sleep on top all are good.

Maybe she thinks she's invisible if she hides her head like that ??
My tortoise has these same magical powers! I know I’ve shared this pic before, but it’s so cute, I’ll share it again. @linoleum I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about. 11E81389-A811-44F0-BE30-C67399511F9F.png
