My Sulcata

Here's my little man - I have had him a couple of weeks now. We're told he's 18 months old, he has slight pyramiding from being fed the wrong diet, but hopefully now he is getting the right diet it might improve as he grows.

Very cute tortoise!

It is my belief that in torts that young, pyramiding is caused more by lack of humidity than diet. http://www.ivorytortoise.com/information/documents/pyramiding_in_tortoises.html When you see torts that have a shell deformity causing large spaces in between the scutes, that is more diet/UV/exercise related. The actual raising of the scutes is humidity related. That is why we see it more in young Sulcatas and it lessens as they get older... Their humidity requirements lessen.

very good info, Thanks very much for that kristina. I had never heard that before, Thanks for the link as well, Everyone on here should read this,even if you dont agree with it it has some good points.

Great pictures of your sulcata :)

I'm going to have to disagree with humidity causing pyramiding :D. When the shell pyramids the bone underneath is becoming porus and thick, which causes the pyramiding. Porus bone is caused by MBD.

Really like his coloring. Mine is much lighter. Very nice little one.
