Hi all,
Whole giving my tortoise her daily bath today, she had a poo and I also noticed these two balls in the water.

They are hard as rock and about the size of half a baked bean each. They look like rather large lentils but not as flat.

I'm so confused. The bath is cleaned after every use, so they definitely came out of her somehow and were not already in the water before she got in. She's a little 2 year old hermanns.

She's fine and eating well otherwise, I'm not worried, just very confused. The bath wasn't placed anywhere where these could have fell in.
Any ideas??

Those look very much like cherry pits which have passed through a tortoise gut. I know this because I used to feed my tortoises lots of cherries. Are their any fruit trees which could have dropped fruits that the tortoise ate and the pits are now passing through it?

Or did anyone in your family feed cherries or a similar fruit to the tortoise?

That is exactly what they look like! Much better than my description, thankyou!

But no, never given her cherries and no fruit trees by her outdoor enclosure either. They are not much smaller than her head, so because they are so hard, I can't see how she could have eaten them.

Do you use compost or store bought soil in the enclosure? Any seeds like that wouldn't decompose well.
I just use orchid bark and coco coir and her outdoor enclosure is the lawn with various weeds and grass. I never give her fruit as I thought it wasn't good, except a bit of cucumber on a hot day

Maybe they are seeds that didn’t get digested?

We have "Choke Cherries" here, which are wild and a little sour. They make good jelly and wine, and have pits that look quite a bit like the pictured things.

Hint for anyone else having a mystery something-or-other : please put something in the pic to give us an understanding of scale/size.
