Hi, I have a five year old sulcata that I love dearly but am no longer able to keep. I have a pregnant wife and the doctor has told us to remove our beloved Hunter due to infectious diseases and her weakened immune system. He has been a great joy to us and we love him dearly. Im not on the computer very much. I work three jobs. I live in Granbury Tx about 30 min south of Ft. Worth. Hello and Welcome. Sorry it's on these terms. However, you may also be able to find a member that will care for your tortoise until the day comes you can bring him back home. That may be an option. Also, congrats on the soon to be new family member.

I'm a 41 year old childless (human, that is) tortoise/Basenji nerd. I have kids...the quadrupedal kind.

I'm so sorry you have to give your tortoise away. I operate a turtle rescue in California, and I can't tell you the number of times I've heard a story similar to yours. Unless your wife has a health problem to start with, being pregnant has no more concerns about tortoises and health issues as not being pregnant does. Many, many millions of women are pregnant and give birth to new babies and also have tortoises on the property, and nothing untoward ever happens to the baby, the mother or anyone in the family.

Please get a second opinion, as it sounds like you really love your tortoise.
