Hi everyone. I'm new here. I live in South Florida and Slappy wanders the yard all day and has his share of romaine to supplement his grass and other greens in the yard. I just noticed this condition on his jaw yesterday and it freaked me out. Can someone please let me know if they can identify what this is and how I can treat it? I'm trying to locate a herp vet, but anyone who can offer advice would be much appreciated. He's eating just fine and moving around his usual self.

That looks like a birth defect. You didn't notice it before?

Does it have any smell or pus?

It's definitely not a birth defect.

There is no smell or puss to it. Very bizarre. Anyone else have any suggestions please??

If this just sprung up out of nowhere, I'd definitely get the tort to a vet... It looks swollen at the edges to me, and if it's an infection, it's very close to the eye/brain area. You definitely want to get it contained so it doesn't spread!

The tissue looks puffy, I'd worry z about some type of infection. Could have started with small mouth injury that got infected. Is the tortpise able to eat?

Good luck with this and getting him to the vet! Seems like some kind of abcess/infection. But definitely needs a herp vet!

Did a piece of his beak rip off? I have seen that on a box turtle. Doesn't grow back, leaves scar tissue, but they seem to function ok.
