Need help identifying my new tortoise

Hi i just received a tortoise as a gift and although the gifters say it is a desert tortoise I am not sure and I want to be sure i'm providing the right environment for him/her.

Any help would be appreciated

Just my opinion, I would search on this forum and skip Google. When I was doing my research I found so many conflicting articles on Google but I didn't know what to do. This forum has great information.
