Our local exotic rehabber brought this little guy to me this evening. I don't have much experience with Russians, so any help will do. Most likely this guy came from the local Petco or Petsmart. His shell has a nice crack and seems to be healing. He is very underweight and skinny. As of now I have him in a kiddie pool with hay and a ceramic heat emitter over him. He is indoors and most likely will stay that way. Let me know what you all think. Is it boy or girl?

WOW, that's some crack. Do you know how it got it? I'm not good at sexing, but I say female. Good luck with the poor thing.

No, not sure how he got it. Looks like he got dropped or ran over. You can't see in the picture but the crack actually goes all the way underneath him.

That's not a russian tortoise, its a Texas tortoise (Gopherus berlandiere) and it is protected in Texas.

The gular (the two prongs right under the chin) say male, however he sure has a small tail and not much of an indented plastron (unless it is a deceiving picture).

Oh wow. Ok. Yea I was looking at russian pics and wasn't looking the same. The pic is deceiving. His plastron is indented. So most likely he was run over somewhere.
