Hi everyone, I'm really worried about my tortoise and I have a few questions. Please help me.

I live in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. I have had an Indian Star Tortoise for over a year now. Today, while he was pooping, I noticed a small round pink organ coming out. It went back in after he was done. I'm very worried about this—please tell me if this is normal or serious. Please find the attached picture.

Also, I want to know if anyone else here is from India or has experience with Indian Star Tortoises. My tortoise is very picky—he only eats cucumber (kheera) or okra (bhindi/lady finger), and that too only when he feels like it. I tried giving him green and red lettuce, but he doesn’t eat them. Is there any tortoise food or powder that I can sprinkle on vegetables to make him eat better?

Lastly, I keep him inside the house and let him roam freely. I don’t have a specific enclosure or sand area for him. Is this okay? If not, can someone suggest a DIY home or setup for him?

Please help me—I’m very worried and want to do the best for him.

I can tell you one thing which will help you not to worry - that is just his male organ, and it is pefectly normal for him to show it at times - however, I don't know much about Indian Star tortoises, so am unable to help about his care. I'm sure people will be along who can advise you soon, though.
He looks really beautiful !

lol don’t worry, this is his penis, congratulations you have a boy💙

No indoors he really needs an appropriate enclosure, the floors of our home are not appropriate living conditions for tortoises, they aren’t domesticated animals, they’re captive reptiles that can only thrive in an environment that best mimics their own. The floors of our homes is much too cool regardless of climate, heat rises, there’s no way for him to access an appropriate basking temperature, which can then interfere with digestion. There’s so many potential hazards and the floor makes for very stressful living conditions.
If wanting to keep him indoors, he’ll need an appropriate indoor set up. It sounds nice you have a good climate for an outdoor enclosure, in the height of your summer, he’ll need A LOT of access to areas of deep shade.

Avoid sands, its poses an impaction risk.

Hopefully these links below will help, there’s a website in there related to diet too

Great one for new comers

Toms care guide

For an indoor set up this is the kind of idea, but as yours is bigger the size scale needs to be bigger too, I made this thread based on the forums care information and added visual aids, it covers correct equipment(uvb, heating bulbs, lighting etc), correct levels, importance of a closed chamber for younger tortoises and humid species(only way to maintain the humidity you need, but again as yours is a bit older, humidity won’t need to be maintained as high), appropriately maintaining the humidity, safe substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything, and a really handy diet link to check out! If going with a greenhouse, the lower the ceiling height, whilst still allowing for recommended bulb height, the better! But I’ll add some more ideas below for closed chambers

This is some different closed chamber options, but go BIG

Personally I think he’ll be more suited to an outdoor enclosure in your climate, This includes lots of inspiration for an adult set up both indoors and out! The indoor bit has some good ideas to tackle indoor space whilst still providing the needed roaming room! Check comments too, I’m always adding to it. I know the recommended adult size is intimidating to some, especially if you’ve been lead into thinking he’ll be fine in a smaller set up(very common) but tortoises long term health really does rely on lots of roaming room. If you’re unable to go that big, go as big as possible

Lastly, this one here is important to go over and keep on hand, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying😊

Really hope they help! Welcome to the forum🐢💚

Tortoises are like little kids if you let them do what they want they will get more spoiled you got to take charge! Indian Stars are a lot like Leopard Tortoises they need grass for food put a little strawberry juice over it or maybe cucumber juice over it
