Hi Leanne, welcome! Question, what's a viv? I've been reading a lot of these threads and this is the first time I'm seeing this. Curiosity strikes! :)

Slash is on a base of coco coir with reptile bark on top in a homemade table/ lair. He also has an outdoor enclosure which I've spent ages messing with!! He's been out there for about 11 hours today so far. Rare for Aberdeenshire

Thanks ginamarie! Leanne, I have read a lot of people saying that sand can cause impaction so I avoid it. I've had no trouble with the coco coir so far. Slash likes to dig into it too. I've got it about 3 inches deep with another inch or so of bark on top. I got the coir in pets at home, but I found my local Poundland were selling blocks too. They come in a special bag that you snip the top, fill with 3/4 ltrs water and then it re-hydrates and you have 10 litres of lovely soil for £1!! I use that both indoor and out. Ideal for planting too as it holds nutrients really well.

I have a Hermann, Sparky, just coming up to 2 years. Measured 'him' today and he is 77mm and 75g. I have only had 'him' 3 weeks and I love him to bits - such a character! Where in Essex are you Leanne?
