So here the new ones of my kinixys collection. They live since yesterday at me. They are 1,1 subadult. WC 5/13 northern southafrica. They male live in a 120x60 the female in 100x60cm. If somebody has lobatsiana too it would be very nice if you could tell me your experience. :)

I had some several years ago, their care is more or less the same as K. spekii. Humid hide in a dry-ish forest landscape, not so fully lighted and bright as for a leopard or sulcata. Diet omnivorous, like a Terrapene box turtle.

The larger one looks 100% like those I had before, the smaller one looks like spekii to me, but the image is not the best for me to see the animal.

Possible for a face photo? It would be good to see the face and the scales on top of the head.

Cool tortoises.

Will

Yes I can do a better photo when she comes out of her stash. I had my doubts too if it is lobatsiana. But I spoke with my colleague (he is also the man who sell them) and he say that lobatsiana is very difficult in their colors. He saw animals which was very orange and I animal which was very brown. So the most difference between lobatsiana and the is the altitude. Here I've got a ca. 5 years old spekii and the lobatiana. Later I will share some photos of the altitude of the shell. You can see lobatsiana is higher than spekii. Also you say that the male is 100% lobatsiana and the two ones came from the same region.

The lobatse do have a thicker posterior. The easy way to tell is the flanking marginal scutes are somewhat serrated where as speks are not. It is more difficult to distinguish as juvenile sizes such that you have. Color can play a roll too. But I do have to say I have 3 juvenile speks that are very similar to the one you showed photos of

Maybe you can't see it so good but the spekii is flatter.
