Given? You lucky dog you!

A couple members here have them. They are an African species, and need lots of hiding places. The biggest defense mechanism they have is to literally sprint for cover and squeeze in between rocks so that predators can't get them. Their shell is thin and doesn't feel like a "normal" tortoise shell. Definitely cool torts.

Basking area of about 90* with ambient temp of 72*-80* oughta do it. They are herbivores - any greens you feed your other torts should suffice. Mostly active in the morning and should be fed in the morning.

(I don't have any yet, but I am getting a pair here very shortly!)

I have a pancake. I provide several hides. I use broken clay pots turned upside down. He has picked his favorite and hides under the one most of the time. I keep the enclosure dry but with a water bowl large enough for him to get in and out. I soak him every couple days. I feed him mixes of greens several times a day. I provide lots of rocks and drift wood for climbing. I use paper towels for substrate since I have read they can get the substrate stuck in their nose or eat it. I have a tub of sand for him but he rarely uses it. I have a basking spot of about 90 and the rest of the open area is about 80. I have read that they like to be in a group and feed better this way. I will be getting him a friend when the weather warms up.

Congrats on your new baby. Looks like some good info has been shared with you. I don't have any experience with Pancakes, but sure would enjoy seeing some pics of yours.

I just saw the reply about them being most active in the morning. Mine is most active in the evening. He never comes out in the morning. I feed him in the morning but the food just dries up. He mainly eats the evening food. Its after midnight and hes running all over his enclosure. Climbing everything and making a racket :)
