New tortoise owner!

Hello! So I'm so happy to be a new mom to my baby tortoise! We found him in my dads yard and I have been trying to research and research everything on them. But I'm still so confused on what specie he is. Can anyone help?

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

He's a Gopherus agassizii, or desert tortoise. They're protected in their native states. Depending upon where your dad's yard is, it might be ok for you to keep him. After he's about 3 years old, you can apply for a permit to keep him. You get it from the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
