I have recently come into possession of a Tortoise when an old man nearby died without passing on his tortoise. I do not know the age, gender or type of tortoise and was hoping I could get some help. Right now the tortoise is in a fairly large wooden enclosure with a house and straw and we have been feeding it lettuce, kale and dandelions. Any help and advice would be extremely helpful. I have attached pictures of the tortoise.

Welcome to the forum! Check out this post and the care sheet for temperate species linked in it: https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/info-for-new-people-please-read-this-first.202363/

Could you post a photo of the underside of your tortoise and the tail? It will help us to determine the gender. I am sure @HermanniChris will be able to id your tortoise. It looks like you have a Testudo on the older side. Also some closer photos of those white spots would be nice.
Thank you.

That’s a tough one because of its extreme age which has blurred its markings but I’m leaning towards Testudo graeca graeca as the shape is not what we see in marokkensis. Marokkensis would have been a possible guess because of what I can see for the shell markings but size and shape are more graeca graeca.

He seems male to me. Not sure what those white spots are. Have you tried soking the tortoise and hgently rubbing the spots with a soft tooth brush? Are the spoths hard? Are they raised?
I gave him a bath when we first got him and rubbed them with a toothbrush but the spots have not come off, they seem slightly raised off the shell and hard. It almost looks like paint but I cannot be sure.
