Hi Everyone!

Have a couple of questions for all RF experts.

1) Would you recommend keeping a larger rf (5") with a smaller (2")? Any potential problems?

2) I was given a free can of dried crickets. Free because it was a month or two pass due (but never been opened). Does anyone feed these to there rf's as a source of protein? Also, anyone think that about two months overdue is a problem? I assume if the store is giving it out, it should still be consumable?

Thanks,
Alex

Someone gave me a couple cans of meal worms and a couple cans of crickets with their RES last summer. The cans had never been opened. I have never bought these products, but when they're given to me for free, what the heck. So I opened one of the cans and PHEW!! Man-0-man did they stink!!

I doubt it would hurt your tortoise to feed them to him.

Alex,
Nope there wouldnt be a problem in keeping those two together. I honestly belive Red's in particular like a companion.
Your freeze dried crickets....well there ok even though 2 months old .. .. but your red probably wont even touch them. Although water turtles ...they will gobble them up (I have 9 "sliders" in the pond and they gobble them up) .
Try giving your Red " King Worms" .. or even Red worms..and Larger RF's even like nightcrawlers... (or you can cut up for the little guys)
Happy torting....and post some pics in of your RF's:D

As long as they both have plenty of room, mixing the two should be no problem. You may want to offer 2 feeding sites to prevent the sort of 'big guy ignoring the little guy' semi-bullying you often see in these situations.

Crickets- these guys eat carrion and other disgusting stuff in the wild- they have pretty strong digestive systems. If they choose to eat it, it probably won't bother them much.
