I've got a baby redfoot coming tomorrow and the UVB fixture I have doesn't have the reflector anymore, if I put tinfoil where the reflector should be to make the most of the UVB bulb will that be ok? It's a reptisun 5.0 linear t8 approximately 10" away from the tortoise. Just want to make sure it won't bother the babies eyes with a makeshift reflector but I don't want to risk mbd by not having a reflector. It's been a long time since I had a baby this small.

Happy Birthday. The reflector is designed to refract light back down. I'm not sure if it does the same for the UV, UVB.
I'm also not sure if tinfoil would help at all since the shape of the reflector is important.
What length is your tube? I have parts for an 18". But shipping a few parts might rival the cost of a new fixture.
At any rate, if you use tin foil, keep it at least an inch away from the ends of the tube. Don't let it short out the fixture. (Tin foil is conductive.)
How much time will your new friend be spending out doors?

It's a pretty young baby and our weather is still pretty cool during the day so probably just half an hour a day while it's this small. Central canada takes a while to heat back up after winter.

A store near me ended up having the fixture I was using with the reflector on sale for $20 so I just grabbed a new one. Thanks.
